What the service is

Starry Night Message Exhibit is software that runs in your browser and formats message exports you provide (such as SMS Backup & Restore backups and WhatsApp chat exports) into a PDF. It is offered by Starry Night.

Not legal advice

Starry Night is not a law firm. The tool and this site provide general information and formatting only. Using them does not create an attorney-client relationship. We do not say, and you should not assume, that any document made with the tool will be accepted or admitted by a court or meets any court’s rules. Courts set their own requirements; confirm them with the court or an attorney.

Your responsibilities

  • Use only files you have the right to use, and follow the laws and court rules that apply to you, including privacy and redaction rules.
  • Check every PDF before you use it. Automatic parsing, date detection and redaction can make mistakes, especially with unusual files.
  • Keep your original files. The PDF is a formatted copy, not a replacement for the original evidence.

Paid options

If a paid option is offered (for example removing the watermark for 24 hours in one browser), its price and what it includes are shown before you pay. Payments are processed by Stripe. If something does not work as described, contact us through the support page and we will make it right, including a refund where appropriate.

Availability and changes

We may change or discontinue features. Because processing happens in your browser, your files are never stored by us, so there is nothing for us to return or delete.

No warranty; limitation of liability

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the extent the law allows, Starry Night is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from the use of documents made with the tool. If we are found liable, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Open-source software

The tool includes open-source components (pdf-lib, fontkit, @noble/hashes) and the Noto fonts under the SIL Open Font License. Their notices are in licenses.txt.
